Elementary Special Education Teacher Job Summary

Building Blocks Center for Autism offers a private day school for children age 2 to 14 with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Building Blocks works together with public schools to meet the needs of children Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families in Danville, Virginia and the surrounding region. Our school is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education and is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF).

The Special Education Teacher provides direct instruction to students with autism using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) including but not limited to: Discrete Trial Training, Verbal Behavior, Natural Environment Teaching and Social Skills Group. All behavioral services are implemented and supervised by licensed BCBA and BCaBA staff.

Status: Full-time (12 months)

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm

Reports to: Director of Education

Location: Danville, Virginia

Qualifications

We are looking for dependable individuals to join our team. Applicants must be energetic, have a love for children, dedication to teaching, patience, and willingness to learn.

Additional, preferred qualifications include:

  • A master’s degree in education or related field is strongly preferred. A bachelors degree with equivalent training and experience will be accepted.
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Virginia license as a teacher
  • Experience in the application of ABA
  • Experience teaching in a special education environment is strongly preferred
  • Ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States of America
