Medical Billing Specialist

medical-billingThe Medical Billing Specialist works as part of the administrative team to ensure that patient accounts are successfully paid. The position is located at our Centralized Business Office in Danville, Virginia.

Position Overview

  • Position Title: Medical Billing Specialist
  • Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week) or Part-Time (32 hours/week)
  • Hours of Work: Full-time hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Hours may vary for part-time positions
  • Office Location: Centralized Business Office (111 Vicar Place, Danville, Virginia, 24540)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify patients’ insurance coverage
  • Obtain pre-authroization if required
  • Enter patient data into the electronic billing system
  • Produce and submit claims to insurance companies
  • Review and appealing unpaid and denied claims
  • Answer patients’ billing questions
  • Coordinate collections on unpaid accounts
  • Keep information confidential in accordance with HIPAA
  • Maintain knowledge of billing practices and requirements
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in medical office billing a plus
  • Computer skills required, including data entry skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and email
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Positive attitude and team-orientation required
  • Attention to detail and focus on accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Professionalism, including excellent phone and email etiquette
  • Must live within 20 miles of Danville, Virginia
